Ride to Cake Mountain
A Wheelers' classic, ride from Mile End Park to Upshire for the famous church teas and cakes. The ride to Upshire has a lot of traffic free sections up the Lee valley, then minor roads via Epping Forest. It's 21 miles to Upshire, we'll stop in Chingford for lunch and then onto Upshire. Post-cake there are two options; an easy 4 mile ride to Cheshunt station and then return by train or there will be another group that will return via the Lee valley to Tower Hamlets making the total distance around 36 miles.
Although this ride is about 36 miles in total, there are lots of drop out points to stations if you don't want to do the full route and the pace will be very leisurely, so it is suitable for beginners. Mostly flat day, save for one steep hill near Epping Forest but don't worry you can walk your bike up this one. No-one left behind. Suitable for all bikes and all ages.
Meet at the Green Bridge in Mile End Park at 09.00, or join at Springfield Marina if that is more convenient. We'll have a coffee stop there and won't leave before 10.00.

Upcoming rides & events
Our rides are highlighted by "RIDE". You don't have to be a member to join in and we're also always looking for new ride ideas. Contact our Rides Co-ordinator for further information.
There is no need to register beforehand for a ride unless this is specifically stated, most rides are "turn up and go".
Please note that for train assisted rides we often cannot publish times until about 2 weeks beforehand because of the need to check engineering works. Also sometimes our ride leaders do have to change dates/times/routes at reasonably short notice. Generally this website will be up to date and also details will be sent out to our email groups, but if in doubt contact the ride leader or our rides co-ordinator to check arrangements.
