Svitlana remembered

Submitted by Mr Jones on 12 November 2014

11th November was the third anniversary of the tragic death of Svitlana Tereshchenko who was killed at Bow Roundabout. Her memorial bike, which had been restored by Wheelers and removed for the CS2 upgrade, was returned to the site last week. During its removal the bike has been modified so that parts cannot be removed from it.

The London Cycling Campaign is calling on supporters to email Mayor demanding to upgrade CS2 to continental standards.

EMAIL THE MAYOR NOW

Three of the latest cyclist deaths have occurred on the Mayor's Cycle Superhighway 2 between Aldgate and Bow, which LCC has said for years isn't safe enough.

We're calling on Mayor to act immediately to:

Submitted by owen on 13 November 2013

Today at 6:00pm, for a 6.30pm start, London Cycling Campaign will mount a peaceful flash protest in response to the four recent cycling deaths in just over a week, and the increasing number of serious cycling injuries. The most recent fatality, a young woman in her mid-20s at Bow roundabout this morning, was the third cyclist to die at this location.

Svitlana Tereschenko's inquest

Submitted by gerry on 4 May 2012

Svitlana’s family have expressed their shock that the driver of the vehicle that hit her last November at Bow roundabout will not face criminal prosecution and as members of the local cycling community we share that response.

Having sat through her inquest on 2nd May at Poplar Coroner’s Court we feel that there was sufficient evidence to go to a jury on a charge of causing death by careless driving.

Both Labour councillors for Bromley by Bow, as well as Josh Peck,  Bow West and Labour leader attended.

Comment: May the Wheelers first Vigil also be the last

Submitted by robl on 19 November 2011

Firstly, I would like to thank everybody involved in organising and spreading the word about the Candlelit Vigil at Bow Roundabout, I saw a lot of planning and organisation at very short notice, and with care and sensitivity.

Secondly, thanks everyone who attended, and those who spoke, and pledged their support in whatever way, in making sure this never happens again. In my mind, it was a very moving and necessary thing to do.
