Movers & Shakers Cycling Project
Did you know?...
- Since the year 2000, cycling has more than doubled on London’s main roads
- 50% of car journeys in London are under 2 miles – perfect for cycling!
The aim of Movers & Shakers is to introduce influential people in the community to cycling. These 'Movers & Shakers' -in more ways than one- can then be role models for our local communities and tell others about their cycling experiences. The idea is to promote cycling through these personal stories from people to whom others look up. This will raising the profile and status of cycling and help show that it's not just for kids or for those wearing lycra!
Can you ride a bike? It's surprising how many people have never learned. If you can, when was the last time you got on a bike?
Do you own one - perhaps you have one 'resting' in a corner somewhere?
Whatever point you're at, we think the Movers & Shakers cycling project is for you. As an influential person in our community, we think you've got what it takes to try something new in cycling and tell other people about it. You may be concerned about pollution, traffic, or rising obesity – all of which can be tackled effectively by cycling.
That's why we're inviting you to take part in the Movers & Shakers project run by the Tower Hamlets Wheelers – your local group of the London Cycling Campaign. It is funded by the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and supported by volunteers.
For you, the project would involve two short interviews, and some free one-to-one cycle training by professional instructors, for complete beginners and experienced cyclists alike.
You don't even need a bike – we can provide one for the training. The interviews would be 'before' and 'after' your training, to see what you think about cycling. You may also like to take part in a short film we will make about people on the project – but this will be optional. This is all to help spread the word in the community about the benefits of cycling.
