Tower Hamlets Wheelers Meeting Minutes – October 2020

Cycle Sisters
- Cycle Sisters are looking for a part-time Project Manager for a short-term 6 month contract based in Bow, Tower Hamlets.
- The contract involves leading on the delivery of cycling activities for women in Bow including setting up a new Cycle Sisters group with regular social rides, working with project partners Hubbub and Bromley-by-Bow Centre. The project is aiming to particularly target Muslim women while being inclusive of all women who may face barriers to cycling.

e-Petition Liveable Streets
- There is currently an e-petition on Tower Hamlets Council website which is urging the council to make all bus lanes within Tower Hamlets 24/7. The e-petition closes 26th October. https://t.co/aRmJJi8gVJ?amp=1

Campaigners Conference
- 20th – 27th October (not everyday) take a look and you can sign up to individual sessions https://membership.lcc.org.uk/lcc-campaigners-conference-2020

Canary Wharf Bridge
- They will cater to cycling on both sides of the bridge, but there cycling won’t be allowed on the bridge on the current plans.
- It will be a pedestrian bridge, but they are not planning to place any ‘Cyclist dismount’ signs in the lead up to or on the bridge.
- It looks like the final stage of public consultation has now closed, but we should keep the pressure on.

Residents Exemptions
- Alex has drafted a blog post outlining the reasons against any residents exemptions in a low-traffic neighbourhoods.
- Alex has emailed round the draft where people are able to feed into it.

AGM
- We could have a guest speaker if we want.
- Potentially we have our AGM in November
- Share agenda points & discussion points in advance so that people attending can think through
- Could we invite the Liveable Streets team and/or council officers.
- It would be good to hear from Cycle Sisters or walking groups
- ACTION Julie to send an email around with the options and date after speaking with Owen.

Cycle Buddies
- Launched the scheme on 5th October
- Currently have 4 experienced riders signed up and 6 new/returning riders.

AOB
- Burdett Road cycleway has gone in and is 200m in distance on both sides of the road. What has gone in is of a good standard with a bus stop bypass.
- Meetings with council officers. It has been a while since we last met with them.
- ACTION Julie to email Rob & Jack to see if we can arrange a meeting.
- There has been a Facebook group set by a local resident called ‘Better Wick Lane’ https://www.facebook.com/BetterWickLane/
