Monthly Meeting Minutes
Wednesday 10th October 2018
Present: Owen, Alex, Julie, Megan, Keith, Terry, Richard, Robert, Telford
1. Workshops
Keith not available this month. Question of shepherds we should look at fixing e bikes, problem it’s very technical
2. Pedestrian cyclist conflict.
Barriers on Thames park, rope makers field. On the Thames Park, 7 triple chicanes out by Canary Wharf group. Sustrans is on the case - maybe we can get in touch with Sustrans - could use the same argument about right of way etc. Ropemakers fields: bumps were taken out - Terry went on site and cyclist are polite - data said otherwise - is there something wrong with the data - Terry to check. Terry thinks that most people would be more considerate if there were signage. There could be a pedestrian priority sign’ or a 10mph etc - bollards can be too obstructive or people may fail at seeing them at night. Ultimately this bridge should be replaced with a wider one.
3. Greenwich Foot tunnel
Ask Margaret Cooper about this
4. Aberfeldy ride
Muffeda and Cllr Perry came along - Keith telling the story of river Lea development - now wants to invite councillors to Cody Dock and show them how the bridge would unlock connectivity in the area. Next step: invite cycle councillors to Cody dock and gather vocal people about the bridge and the over development
5. Air quality board
Minutes will be available soon - how much were people suggesting to move away from cars - action against fossil fuel energy sources - non diesel transport fleet - no more wood burning stoves etc. Megan : Propensity cycle stool : how much would it cost to get reduction. 19 millions pounds per year spent by the council - transport fleet. EV model has far less maintenance costs. They should carry out studies about costing interventions - behavioural change would be \ is the most efficient - that takes us to active travel. Next meeting is in December
6. Megan’s research
Existing and proposed cycle lanes - needs everyone feedback. Megan also started a cycle analysis . 1.3 millions in s.106 money - 1.2 million pounds in the council budget for transport - some of it has been rolled over. Looks like the council is only funding cycle schemes from s.106 money. Big budgets : housing and children social services : we could argue to fund cycle infrastructure through this. There is no transport budget but resource budget...
7. Meeting with councillors
Some dates in the calendar. Talking about lack of appetite and engagement from council means TH an unlikely candidate for LN funding... not enough money spent on cycling. Budget shows no commitment to cycling. Areas that could be targeted by council are Bow, Wapping and Weavers
