6. Popular HARCA presentation by Wei
Popular HARCA control a large number of old borough council housing stock in a very concentrated area. They provide community amenities as well as looking after some smaller roads within the area. Have recently conducted door to door surveying of residents, a major concern in the area was air pollution given the areas close proximity to the A12, and a large cement factory nearby. Poplar HARCA have conducted air pollution monitoring in the area, and results were ‘pretty dire’. Wei alluded to potential funding being available to Popular HARCA from DEFRA for projects to address behavioural change in transportation methods. Wei was keen to get lobbying support from Tower Hamlets Wheelers in order to maintain focus on environmental issues and helping to address imbalances in provision for cycling facilities.
Actions – Representative from THW and BSfTH to attend ‘Reclaim the Streets’ event (currently scheduled for January but may be pushed back).
Potential upcoming consultations on Chrisp Street and Cotall Street. To be publicised on Wheelers website/Twitter.
