Monthly Meeting Minutes

Wednesday, 12 September 2012 7.30pm
Held at St Margaret's House, 21 Old Ford Road.

1. Workshop

This Saturday, 15th. Keith, Rob, Owen, David T in attendence.  Owen will open up and bring tools.

Rob noted that we might need to find a venue for October.

ACTION: Rob to ask around about a suitable venue. 

Some of our workshop team will be once again providing a Dr Bike service in King Edward Memorial Park for the riders taking part in this year's Bikeathon sponsored ride on Sunday, 16th September.



2. Events

St Barnabas - Rob and Owen reported that lots of Dr Biking took place.  Good distribution of leaflets and cleared out of maps.

Breeze in Park on Sunday, 23 September from 10am-1pm at Victoria Park Cafe, Victoria Park, Crown West Gate

ACTION: Owen to publicise on THW egroups & website.



3. Council liaison

David T attended Hackney cycling conference a month or so ago.  Goldsmith's Row/Ion Square cycle route project raised afterwards between Hackney LCC and THW.  David sees it as a good opportunity to restablish links and liaison with LBTH.  Other current planning projects that would benefit from this are:

  - Cable St workshop follow-up
  - TfL junctions review process also will resume.

Proposes to formally restablish contact with the council with a meeting, more than likely to be on a week day.  Also perhaps ask a Hackney LCC member to come along as well.

ACTION: David to propose some dates and organise with relevant LBTH officers.


Gerry attended a consultation meeting with Hackney LCC Queen Elizabeth Children's hosptial redevelopment that would include Goldsmith's Row/Ion Square cycle route/calming opportunities.  

Reiterates how us jointly working with LCC in Hackney on this project will benefit our group in improving its consultation skills and experience.

ACTION: Gerry and David T to draw up an initial project document.


Gerry contacted John Rymell, LBTH Schools Travel Officer about attending .....



4. Anniversary of death of Brian Dorling

Gerry discusses proposals that have started to float around to mark the annniversary at Bow roundabout (in October).

All in agreement to get involved in an event as long as has support of Brian's family.

Also, it would be good to involve the local community especially with regard to the lack of pedestrian access.

ACTION: Gerry to follow up with her contacts.



5. Greenwich Foot Tunnel

Alex reports about the chicanes that have been installed over the summer in the tunnel and notes that behaviour seems to have improved.  Any that are riding are having to ride slower.  Richard adds that cycling has also been attempted to be stopped on the approach on the Cutty Sark side.

ACTION: Alex to keep an eye on developments and report back in a couple of months.



6. Newsletter

Rob would like to revisit his proposals from a few months ago about discussing the future/format of newsletter.

Rob, Alex, Keith, Owen agree to meet on Wednesday, 3 October to take it forward.

ACTION: Rob to organise meeting.



7. Rides

Alex reports some shorter, easier rides coming up.  Open House rides being organised with Hackney LCC on 22/23 September.

The usual request for ride leaders and their ideas for rides.



8. LCC/borough logo

Owen announces that there is a borough version of the new LCC logo available to use in documents.
